Hello, my name is Cameron Garcia and I am a 24 years old Freelance Graphic Designer & Animator based in Orange County CA.
I was born and raised in Palm Springs California, yes I know, gross the desert, but it was a quiet little place that taught me a lot and holds a special place in my heart. After 18 year in 120 degree summer, I decided to head out east just a little to attend Northern Arizona University, where I earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Visual Communications. Now I know your thinking, he left California only to go to another desert? Well Northern Arizona, Flagstaff to be exact, is a small little mountain town that is full of art, music, and great people. If you haven't ever visited or been, I highly recommend you stop on by while your passing through. After graduation I moved back to California, where I am currently living and working as a Freelance Designer.
Currently I am working full time as a Freelance Designer, but hopefully sometime in the near future I will be able to a open design studio. I am currently working with a lot of amazingly talented people and we hope to have our own studio up and running soon. This has been a dream of mine ever since I started thinking about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Not having people tell you what to do and creating and designing things that your passionate about is something that I have always wanted and worked towards.
After graduating High School, I moved to Northern Arizona to pursue a career in Civil Engineering. After my first year I decided that although engineering was challenging and interesting, I could not see myself doing that for the rest of my life. So I decided to try my hand a Graphic Design, it seemed like a happy medium between engineering and Art. 3 years and a lot of late nights later, I graduated with my B.F.A in Visual Communications.
After graduation I moved back to Palm Springs for a bit, to do some traveling and figure out where I wanted to do with my life. After about 4 months, I decided to look for jobs in the O.C. as my brother and sister were already living there and I could crash on their couches. After about a week of interviews, I ended up taking a Designer roll at a company called Mapperarti doing map and brochure design for luxury hotels all over the world. After about a year, Mapperarti was no longer the main focus of the company, instead I started to work on branding 3 other umbrella companies, Digimapps, Nutshell WiFi, and Nutshell Pass. This was the main focus of my work and designs for the next year. Although I was also doing some freelance on the side.
As of recent, I have left that company to pursue my dream of opening up my own design studio with some really talented people. I am currently working freelance full time and am working towards gaining more clients and exposure for our new brand. I am excited for what the future holds and cant wait to see where this path leads me.
I am a passionate creative, I strive for perfection and love to challenge myself with new ways of designing; whether that be using a medium that I have never used before, or to try new and interesting ways of creating one of my design concepts.
When I design, I want to exemplify certain aspects of my design, I not only want to have a visually interesting design, but have meaning and reason behind every design choice. I want to show my clients that I can always keep surprising them with new and innovative ways of designing. I want to showcase my ability to create designs that are not only complex and interesting to look at, but also keep a clean cohesive look throughout.
I have cornucopia of hobbies and interests, that range of normal stuff like cooking to more extreme stuff like white water rafting. More recently, well in the past year, I have really been getting into surfing. I just purchased my third surfboard and go out as much as possible, well when the waves are cooperating.
Some other random facts about me, I play quit a few different instruments. Talking piano lessons for 9 years when I was younger really drove my passion for music. Picking up the drums, bass, and guitar all around the same time in middle school was really a deciding factor that I was going to keep pursuing music. In high school I was in the drum line, and the concert symphonic band, which gave me the opportunity to do some international travel and go to England and whales for a bit in 2010.
Art is also a huge part of my life, I mean I am a graphic designer by trade. But I also love more traditional art like painting and drawing, I love experimenting with new mediums and techniques.
So why design? What makes this job so amazing? Well I'll tell you, what makes design so amazing is that it's all around us. Everyday, almost every waking moment has some sort of designed element that had to be created. It doesn't matter if you notice or not, but good and bad design is all around us. Whether it is a brands logo, a tee shirt from a famous skate company, packaging of you favorite flushable moist toilet wipes, WHATEVER... someone, somewhere designed and created it. Now I don't know about you, but I find it pretty amazing that one person or persons could have that much impact and influence on the mass media. Create a poster and save the world, probably the one single common belief among designer everywhere. So the next time your walking down the street just take a look up and see how many deigned things you can spot, it will amaze and shock you how much design plays a part in our daily lives.
